OraQuick In-Home HIV Test
The FDA has approved the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test, the first home-use rapid HIV test kit to detect the presence of antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and type 2 (HIV-2). The test is designed to allow individuals to collect an oral fluid sample by swabbing the upper and lower gums inside of their mouths, then place that sample into a developer vial and obtain test results within 20 to 40 minutes. A positive result does not mean that an individual is definitely infected with HIV, but rather that additional testing should be done in a medical setting to confirm the test result. Clinical studies for self-testing have shown an expected sensitivity of 92% and an expected specificity of 99.98%.

Procter & Gamble has expanded the NyQuil product line to include ZzzQuil, a nonprescription sleep aid for relief for occasional sleeplessness in adults and children 12 years of age and older. The active ingredient in ZzzQuil is diphenhydramine HCl 50 mg; the new product is available in liquid and LiquiCap formulations.

It is approved for use in children 6 weeks to 18 months of age; the four-dose series is recommended to be given at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 12–15 months.

The SoloHealth Station provides health screenings for vision, blood pressure, weight, and body mass index; a symptom checker; and an overall health assessment free of charge. SoloHealth also helps connect consumers to local professionals. The manufacturer is looking to place kiosks in retail pharmacy locations nationwide by end of 2012.
