Fluarix Quadrivalent
The FDA has approved Fluarix Quadrivalent (influenza virus vaccine) for the immunization of children (3 years of age and older) and adults to help prevent disease caused by seasonal influenza virus subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine. Fluarix Quadrivalent is the first intramuscular vaccine to provide coverage against four influenza strains (two A virus strains and two B virus strains).

The FDA has approved Flublok, the first trivalent influenza vaccine made using an insect virus (baculovirus) expression system and recombinant DNA technology. Unlike current flu vaccines, Flublok does not use the influenza virus or eggs in its production. Flublok is approved for the prevention of seasonal influenza in adults 18 to 49 years of age. Because Flublok has a shelf life of 16 weeks from the date of manufacture, health care providers are advised to check the expiration date before administering the vaccine.

PediaCare Cold & Flu Hydration
The PediaCare product line has expanded to include PediaCare Cold & Flu Hydration, a product intended to help maintain adequate hydration and replenish electrolytes during pediatric illness. It is supplied as a grape-flavored powder in premeasured, single-use packets; consumers are instructed to mix one packet with 8 oz of cold water only. [Note: although this product is named “cold & flu hydration,” it contains no active ingredients intended to relieve cold or flu symptoms, and the directions for use reference diarrhea and vomiting.]

Nyloxin Military Strength
Nutra Pharma Corporation is introducing Nyloxin Military Strength, the strongest version of its nonprescription pain reliever Nyloxin. The Nyloxin product line incorporates cobra venom as the main active ingredient; both topical and oral spray formulations are available. Nyloxin Military Strength is intended to help prevent the use and abuse of prescription analgesics (particularly opiates) and high-dosage NSAIDs among military personnel.
